The Discovery's seven, fun, interactive galleries allow kids to explore everything from art, to science, to Nevada's history and are aligned with state and Common Core standards. In addition, The Discovery has transportation scholarships available for WCSD public school teachers.

Inquiry class and exhibit exploration

This is a two-hour field trip option where students and their chaperones* attend a 50-minute integrated, standard-aligned science class as well as explore the galleries of the museum. Teachers have the option to choose an area of focus during their exploration time. Cost: $4 per student

Exhibit exploration

This is a two-hour field trip where students and their chaperones* are led through the museum by our educators. Teachers can choose an area of focus to explore in-depth in our galleries or discover our galleries without a highlighted interest. Cost: $3 per student

*For elementary-aged field trips we encourage 1 chaperone for every 7 students. For preschool and kindergarten groups we encourage 1 chaperone for every 4 students. Because we believe this enhances students' learning there is no charge for teachers or required chaperones.

Reduced cost field trips

Any WCSD public school with 50% or higher free and reduced lunch qualifies for an exhibit exploration field trip at no cost. An inquiry class can be added for $1 per student. Please note: The Discovery will confirm each school's free and reduced lunch percentage before the reservation is confirmed.

Transportation scholarships

We have transportation funds available for Washoe County School District public schools. Funds are limited to this group as designated by the grant. To apply for the transportation, please use our Transportation Application. In the future we hope to have more scholarships available for a wider audience.

Field trip times

We have two time slots available for school groups: 9:30-11:30 am and 11:30-1:30pm. These are available Tuesday through Friday.
