August 31, 2009 MAJOR GIFT FROM THE TERRY LEE WELLS FOUNDATION
The Nevada Discovery Museum is excited to announce that the Terry Lee Wells Foundation (www.terryleewellsfoundation.org) has pledged a challenge gift to the museum of $4 million. This is a tremendous donation that brings us to another step closer to realizing our goal of opening a world-class children's museum in northern Nevada.
However, as it is a "challenge" gift, we need to raise additional funds before we can receive this. Specifically, we have agreed with the board of directors of the Terry Lee Wells Foundation that, in order to receive their $4 million, we will raise an additional $6 million by July 2010. This total amount would allow us to start construction and open in the summer of 2011.
We are constantly in awe of the generosity and selflessness of northern Nevada. The donations and commitments made to the Nevada Discovery Museum over the past three years have pushed us beyond the $10 million mark. We are eternally grateful for the support of the area's many community organizations and philanthropic groups and the work of so many passionate volunteers. Thanks to all of these efforts, we were able to complete hard demolition on the building in early June and are preparing to start construction by the middle of 2010. And, with continued community support, a world-class children's museum in Reno is on the horizon.
Obviously, we still have lots of work to do and WE NEED YOUR HELP. Among our current endeavors, we are seeking new connections to people interested in children's issues, education, cultural development and Reno redevelopment, especially those who can donate $100,000 or more to this incredible project. If you are interested, or know of anyone who might be interested, in making a donation or helping as a volunteer please call (775) 786-1000 or email development@nvdm.org.
